Got a late call from a 2016 MDX owner over in the RiverPark neighborhood in Oxnard. Zero keys. Advance package, so it needed the 5-button remote start fob, the KR580399900.
First thing I asked for was the VIN. That tells me whether the car takes the 4-button KR5V1X or the 5-button remote start key. His came back Advance trim. Acura lists part number 72147-TZ6-A71 for Driver 1 and 72147-TZ6-A81 for Driver 2 on those. Both use the same FCC ID and a CR2032.
When I pulled up, he was standing under the parking lot lights with the title in hand. I verified ownership, connected my diagnostic tool, and ran the "All Keyless Access Remotes Lost" routine through the ONE-PUSH START system. It asks for a security code, then runs a timed registration sequence. Once the immobilizer accepted the new ID47 chip, the engine cranked and held.
I cut the HO01 emergency insert on the tailgate, then walked every function. Door handle touch unlock, driver side and passenger side. Lock button on the handle. Hatch release. Panic. Remote start. He stood there watching each one like he was keeping score.
He drove home that night. No tow truck, no week-long wait at the dealer, and way less hassle than he expected.
