2010 Acura MDX Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in Five Points, a detailer called me about a 2010 Acura MDX that needed to be moved before its owner showed up to collect it. The shop's flip key for it had gone missing somewhere between two other vehicles and a parts shelf.
No push-button start on this generation. It runs an ignition cylinder with an immobilizer ring built around it, which means a cut blade alone does not get you anywhere. You need a chip that the car recognizes.
I decoded the door lock to get the key cut right, generated a blade to match, and sourced the correct flip key shell with the transponder chip inside. The remote housing takes a CR1616, and once you have the right battery seated correctly, the remote functions come right up. After cutting, I connected through the diagnostic port and registered the new transponder to the immobilizer. All-keys-lost on this platform is not something you can shortcut with an ignition sequence. The system needs a proper write through the OBD port.
Green key light came on for two seconds, went out, and the MDX started clean.
The detailer moved it with about ten minutes to spare. Later that afternoon he found the original behind a shelf and called me back. Now the owner has two working keys instead of zero, and neither of them had to deal with a dealer telling them to come back in three days.
