2009 Acura MDX Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
August in Oxnard, parked near Lemon Grove Plaza. A woman had just come back from the vet with her dog riding in the third row. Engine off. Windows cracked a couple inches.
She hits unlock on the flip key. Nothing. No flash from the lights, no click from the doors. Dog is panting.
First priority was getting that door open so the dog could breathe. Mechanical blade worked fine on the HON66 keyway, so we got the animal out and into some shade fast. Then I took a look at the remote head.
When I popped the key open, the CR1616 had leaked. Battery contacts were crusted green. Acura put out TSB 07-046 years ago covering remote transmitters that quit because the coin cell sits loose in the holder and drops contact. This one went past that and actually corroded the board.
The 2009 MDX runs the Type 6 GEN4 immobilizer, and the ID46 chip lives in the key head separate from the remote circuit. Two different systems in one shell. I cut a fresh remote head key on site, registered the ID46 through the OBD port, and programmed the remote. Tested lock, unlock, rear hatch, and panic. The green key indicator on the dash went out the way it should.
From my arrival to engine running, under an hour. She did not have to leave the car sitting in a hot parking lot waiting on a dealer appointment three days out.
