Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2009 Acura MDX Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was August in Oxnard, over in Marina West. She had just picked up her dog from the vet and pulled into a shaded spot in the parking lot. Engine off, windows cracked. When she hit unlock on the remote flip key, nothing happened. No flash from the lights, no click from the doors.

She called me from the lot. Dog in the back seat, heat climbing.

First thing I did was get the door open mechanically so the dog could come out. That part was fine. The key blade still worked. The problem was inside the remote head itself.

When I cracked the fob open, the CR1616 had leaked. The battery contacts were crusted and the board had visible corrosion where the cell sits. This is the failure mode that goes past a simple battery swap. Once the cell leaks into those contact points, cleaning alone doesn't always recover it. This one needed a new fob.

I cut a fresh remote flip key to her vehicle on site, registered it through the OBD port, and ran through every button to confirm it was talking to the car correctly. The green key indicator on the dash cleared the way it should. Lock, unlock, the other two buttons, all confirmed working before I packed up.

From the time I pulled in to the time she drove out was under an hour. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of several days for an appointment. She hadn't wanted to leave the MDX sitting at a shop that long anyway.
