His only smart key had split at the seam. The chrome side trim popped off, the shell cracked open, and the HO01 emergency blade snapped clean when he tried to pry it free. The circuit board was still inside, stamped 995364, battery rattling loose against the Philips ID47 chip.
He could not get in. Could not even test whether the car would start.
I decoded the driver door cylinder and opened it clean. No alarm trip, no "Keyless Start System Problem" on the MID. Once inside, I held the cracked board flat against the start button. It fired on the first push. That told me the ID47 was still paired to the Keyless Access Control Unit. No full reset needed, no PCM code pull.
I rebuilt his original electronics into a fresh 72147-TJB-A41 housing, cut a new HO01 insert to code, and then registered a second smart key through the OBD port so he would not be one broken fob away from this again.
Tested all four door handles for proximity unlock, tailgate button, remote start from 30 feet back. Everything responded. He stood there watching the tailgate open on its own like he forgot the car could do that.
He went from a cracked shell and a snapped blade to two working fobs, right there in the parking lot. The dealer route would have meant a tow and a wait for parts. We skipped all of that.
