2019 Acura MDX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

River Park/Wagon Wheel in Ventura. Wind off the water, a 2019 MDX parked nose-out near the grass. The owner met me with the fob in two pieces and a look that said he already knew it was going to be a whole thing.

The shell had split at the seam - that spot just below where your thumb presses lock. The chrome trim piece had popped loose, the housing cracked, and when he tried to pry the emergency insert blade out of the bottom slot, it snapped. The circuit board was still inside, battery hanging at an angle. He had been clicking it anyway, out of habit, getting nothing.

He couldn't unlock the door. Couldn't get in to test anything.

I started with entry. Decoded the driver lock, opened it clean, no drama. Checked the dash - no key-not-detected warning, no security alert on the display. Then I just held the broken board close to the start button. The engine turned over. That told me everything I needed to know: the transponder on that board was still paired and the vehicle recognized it. No full immobilizer reset required.

So the job shifted. I transferred his original circuit board into a new housing that matched the factory fob, cut a fresh emergency insert to the correct blade profile, and then programmed a second fob through the diagnostic port so he'd have a spare and wouldn't be standing in a parking lot with a cracked shell again in six months.

Walked every door for touch unlock, tested the tailgate, confirmed both fobs started the vehicle. The whole thing happened in the lot.

He asked me at the end what the dealer would have done. Honestly, they'd have ordered a new unit, had him come back, and charged for programming on top. We skipped all of that.
