Call came in from Mandalay Village Marketplace in Oxnard. 2004 Acura MDX, no working key, doors locked, remote doing nothing.
I had them drop a pin and met the car where it sat.
First job was getting into the door without wrecking the cylinder. The driver keyway was gritty, so I flushed it out and worked it until a blade would slide clean. While I cut a fresh HD106-PT transponder blank with the Megamos ID13 chip, the owner kept tapping the old remote like it might wake up. Habit.
Once the blade was right, I plugged into the 16-pin DLC under the dash and ran the Type 3 all-keys-lost routine. That means clearing old transponder codes from the ECM and immobilizer memory, then registering the new key. On this system, if the chip ID does not match what the receiver coil reads at the ignition switch, the engine cranks but never fires. No codes, no check engine light, just a dead start.
Then the boring part that tells the truth. Start. Shut down. Restart. Pull the key, reinsert, start again. I cut and programmed a spare so the memory held more than one code.
No tow to the dealer. No sitting in a service drive. Just the car starting again, right there in the lot, for a fraction of what that route would have cost.
