I was out at The Collection at RiverPark in Oxnard when a delivery driver called. His 2018 Acura MDX would not unlock with the handle touch, and when he tried the mechanical insert, the blade snapped in the door cylinder.
On these third gen MDX trucks, the emergency key is a high security sidewinder insert that hides inside the smart fob. It does not get used much, so when it finally does, it can bind.
First step was extracting the broken insert without scarring the wafers. No drilling. Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock and cut a fresh HON70 style emergency key to code.
His fob was the five button KR580399900 unit with remote start. The case was cracked but the board was intact. I transferred the original board and ID47 chip into a new shell, installed a fresh CR2032, and reassembled it.
Then the test cycle. Lock, unlock, tailgate, remote start, proximity unlock on both front handles, and push button start. No “Keyless Access System Problem” message. No warning lights.
He was back on route without replacing a lock or waiting on a dealer order. Just the right repair, done on site, and his original hardware still in place.
