He had parked near the gardens for a long walk and realized at the trail exit that his only smart key was missing. No spare at home. No valet key tucked away. Just a locked MDX sitting there with the dash set to throw “No Key Detected” if anyone tried to wake it up.

This generation MDX, 2014 through 2020, uses Honda’s Hitag3 based immobilizer with a proximity smart system. His was the five button remote start version, FCC ID KR5995364, part number 72147-TJB-A41. Driver 1 memory built in.

I started at the door with my HON66 Lishi, decoded and cut a fresh emergency insert. Once I was inside, I hooked into the OBD port and ran the all keys lost procedure. That wipes every stored key ID from the Keyless Access Control Unit and forces a timed relearn. No button tricks on these. It is all done through the immobilizer menu.

About 45 minutes later, the new smart key woke up the dash and the engine fired like nothing ever happened. I programmed a second fob on the same session so he would not be back in this spot.

He thought it meant a tow and a dealer appointment. It did not.
