A member over in Montecito Country Club dropped me a pin right on his driveway. His 2023 Acura MDX would not unlock on proximity and the dash flashed “Keyless Access System Problem.”
He had already swapped the CR2032. Still nothing. The buttons worked sometimes, but walking up and grabbing the handle did nothing. He was using the emergency insert like it was 2005.
First thing I checked was the fob itself. FCC ID KR5BTP. Five buttons. The board was marked with a Continental A3C reference, which is normal for these. I verified it matched the correct MDX part family. On this generation, most are 72147-TYA-C01 or C11, not the 3S5 prefix that shows up on Integra listings. Wrong part number will not register.
Before programming anything, I backed up the immobilizer data through the OBD port. These run a HITAG-AES system, so no DIY button tricks. Registration is done through the proper security login.
I cleaned the hidden key cylinder on the driver handle while I was there. Packed dirt can make it feel seized.
New fob registered. Proximity unlock, lock button on the handle, remote start, tailgate, panic. Then the real test. Foot on brake, push button start. Fired right up in the same driveway it had been sitting in all morning.
He did not need a tow. Just the right key, programmed on site, for way less hassle than booking a dealer visit.
