Upper Village, late afternoon. A 2024 Acura MDX sitting nose out in a small lot, dash flashing “Keyless Access System Problem. See Your Dealer.”
He had already swapped the CR2032. Twice.
This MDX runs the KR5BTP smart key, a five button unit with remote start and remote linked memory. Internally it is a HITAG AES 4A system, not an old style cut key with a glass chip. Registration is done through the immobilizer over the OBD port with secure access, the same process the dealer runs through i HDS and their security login.
First thing I did was pull the emergency insert from the fob and pop the hidden cap on the driver door so we could get in cleanly. Then I had him hold the fob up against the start button. These Acuras have a backup coil in the button for when the proximity side acts up.
The original KR5BTP board in his fob matched the Continental reference A3C0556950500.
I added a fresh transmitter, registered it to the car, and erased the old one from memory. Lock, unlock, hatch, remote start with the green confirmation blink, then push to start.
He was back to his day in Upper Village. No tow. No service bay.
