From there I connected through OBD and ran the PATS all-keys-lost sequence, which clears any previous keys from the car's memory and learns the new one as primary. His mechanical key, FCC ID , started the car on the first try. I cut him a spare too so he wouldn't be in this situation again.
The whole job took about 45 minutes and came out to around 95. Dealer would have been roughly 200 plus a tow and a Monday appointment. He drove home from that same beach lot with two working keys.
