Out in Pacific View, I got a call from an Expedition owner who had been dealing with an intermittent key-not-detected warning for about two weeks. Some mornings it started fine. Other mornings he was standing next to a full-size SUV that wouldn't acknowledge the fob was there at all. No re-registration needed. I walked every button, tested both door handles, and watched the dash for any warning while he cycled the vehicle off and on three times.

He mentioned he'd called the dealer before reaching me. They told him to bring it in for a diagnostic, possibly a new fob, possibly a module check, and to expect to be without the vehicle for at least a day. He thanked me and said he was glad he made one more call first.
