2010 Ford Expedition Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. His 2010 Expedition had been giving him the wiggle-and-wait routine for weeks. Push the key in, nothing catches. Jiggle it, lean on the steering wheel, try again. Sometimes thirty seconds, sometimes two minutes before it would finally turn over.

He was visiting someone at the hospital, and the ignition just quit cooperating altogether. Key went in fine but would not rotate past the lock position. He called the dealer, got quoted for a full ignition cylinder replacement, new key, and PATS reprogramming. His buddy told him to try a locksmith before dropping that kind of money.

I got there and pulled the HU101 cylinder. The issue was what I expected: worn wafers inside the lock, not a dead assembly. I decoded the existing lock, swapped out the chewed-up wafers, and cut a fresh key on the H84-PT blank to match the repaired cylinder. Used my programmer to back up the PATS data from the PCM first, just in case, then registered the new key. His separate remote, the OUCD6000022, paired back up without a fight.

I showed him the old wafers side by side with the new ones. You could see the wear with your eyes. He understood right away why the dealer's full-replacement quote was overkill.

Ignition turns clean now. He kept his original cylinder, saved a good chunk, and drove home the same afternoon.
