2005 Ford Expedition Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy over near Oxnard State Beach Park around 10 at night. His 2005 Expedition was sitting in the driveway and his only remote head key had quit on him. The PATS theft light on the dash was doing its steady flash, which means the system wasn't seeing a valid transponder at all. He'd already looked up tow costs and dealer hours and was mentally writing off the next three days.
I told him I'd come out.
Pulled up, connected my programmer to the OBD-II port, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the PATS transceiver module. The 2005 Expedition runs PATS II with a Texas Instruments 4D-63 (80-bit) transponder chip, so the security handshake has a built-in timing window. Cleared the old key data from the PCM, cut a fresh HU101 blade, and programmed the new OUCD6000022 fob right there on his driveway.
He stood by the garage door watching the whole thing. When the engine turned over on the first try, he just sort of nodded slowly, like he was waiting for something else to go wrong. Nothing did. Tested all three buttons, lock, unlock, panic, cycled the ignition twice more, confirmed the PATS light behavior was clean.
The whole job took maybe 30 minutes. He'd been planning around losing his truck for half the week, and instead he was done before 11.
