Got a call from a mom in the Wildwood neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. She was sitting in a school pickup line with a 2020 Ford Expedition, two kids buckled in the back, and a smart fob that had gone through a full wash cycle that morning. The 2020 Expedition uses Ford's second-generation PATS with a 902 MHz RF protocol on the smart key side. There is a timed security window the module forces you through before it accepts a new key. No way around it, dealer or locksmith. Took about 20 minutes total to get her new fob learned and all five buttons responding.
I told her to toss the washed fob in dry rice for a couple days, but not to bet on it. Water and the M3N board do not get along once it reaches the battery contacts.
She pulled out of that lot with time to spare for her next stop. No tow, no Friday appointment, no lost day.
