Got a call from the Ventura Keys area, guy said his H3 keys were stolen out of a gym bag. Not lost. Stolen. So the issue was not just getting a new key cut. It was making sure whoever had the old ones could never start the truck.
I pulled up and the H3 was sitting in his driveway. He had already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in, wait two days, and they would handle the reprogram plus new keys. He did not love that answer.
I plugged into the OBD-II port and connected to the Body Control Module. On the 2009 H3, the BCM stores the transponder key IDs for the PK3+ system. Full reset: wipe every stored key ID, then register the two new Strattec 5911580 blanks I cut on site. Each key gets its ID learned to the BCM one at a time, ten-minute security relearn per key while the system cycles.
After both keys were programmed, I had him try the old scenario in his head. Those stolen keys are just pieces of metal now. They will turn the ignition, but the PK3+ will reject the chip ID and kill fuel. Engine cranks, never fires.
He sat in the driver's seat, turned the new key, and just watched the Security light go out. That was the moment he stopped thinking about it.
