2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

The Riviera sits up in the hills above Santa Barbara, all narrow streets and gated driveways, and getting a tow truck in there is its own project. That was already the situation before this guy even called me.

He was at his place on the Riviera, Ioniq 5 parked in the carport, and the fob had gone completely dark. Not intermittent, not low battery. Nothing. He had tried a fresh CR2032 already, seated it correctly, and the car still would not acknowledge the fob at all. The door handles were not lighting up. Push-button start was not responding. He had the emergency insert blade out and was using it to get in and out of the car manually, but that only gets you so far on a push-button vehicle.

A tow truck to a dealer was the first suggestion from roadside assistance. He called me instead.

I pulled up the hill and parked behind his car. My van carries the equipment to handle the full job on-site: blank fob housings compatible with this generation of Ioniq, CR2032 cells, a blade cutter, and the diagnostic gear to read the vehicle PIN and write a new key into the immobilizer. I connected through the OBD port, pulled the security data, and built a replacement fob right there in the carport.

Once the new fob was paired, I walked every function. Door handle passive unlock, push-button start, lock and unlock from distance. All of it working before I packed up.

He never needed a tow. The car never left the carport. And whatever the dealer would have charged, plus the tow bill and however many days without the car, he skipped all of that.
