2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He works somewhere up near the Mesa and parks at the lot off Shoreline Drive when the street spots are gone. End of a long Monday, walked out, pressed the fob. Nothing. Pressed it again. Still nothing. He held it up closer and tried the door handle. Nothing.

He found the backup start-button trick in the manual after about ten minutes of frustrated scrolling. Fob pressed flat against the button, car woke up enough to confirm his key was still recognized by the system, but the fob itself was reading a depleted battery fault and a communication error had tripped in the security module. It wasn't just a swap-the-battery situation anymore.

He called the dealer. Thursday was the earliest. It was Monday afternoon. He called EZ Car Keyz after that.

I was at the Mesa-area lot in under 35 minutes. Popped the fob, confirmed the CR2450 was genuinely dead, not just weak. Fresh cell in, but the fault that had logged during the dead-battery episode still needed to be cleared through the OBD port before the proximity functions would come back fully. Hooked up my diagnostic equipment, cleared the communication fault, walked every button, confirmed door handle touch unlock was working on both sides, confirmed the start button was reading the fob at normal proximity range again.

He drove home that same evening. The dealer would have had his car sitting in a service queue until at least Thursday, plus whatever a tow would have run from that lot. He was done in about 40 minutes total, car never left the space he'd pulled into that morning.
