Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks sees plenty of Venues. This one rolled up with the owner holding her smart key like it was broken glass.
"It worked this morning," she said. Now the dash showed "Smart Key Not Detected" and the push-button start just blinked orange. She'd already swapped the CR2032 twice. Still nothing.
I plugged in and pulled codes. U1112 - lost communication with the smart key module. Classic symptom of TSB 21-BE-002H. The receiver board under the steering column wasn't talking to the BCM anymore. But before I went that route, I tried something simpler.
The 95440-J3000 smart key uses a 4A DST-AES chip that can lose sync if the battery dies while transmitting. I put the fob right against the start button, held it there, and had her press the button. The Venue fired up.
Quick resync through the OBD port, tested all four buttons, made sure the passive entry worked on both front doors. The whole fix took maybe fifteen minutes in her driveway.
She mentioned the dealer wanted to order a whole new smart key module for way more than what I charge for a simple resync. Sometimes the expensive fix isn't the right fix.
