2008 Saturn SKY
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: I lost my key and don't have any info from it. Can you still figure out what key the 2008 Saturn SKY uses?

Yes. Year, make, and model is all we need to identify the right key blade and transponder chip for your vehicle. We don't need anything from the old key because there's nothing to read from it anyway once it's gone. We pull the key specification from our database, cut to your vehicle's lock, and program through the OBD port. The lost key details are irrelevant.

Q: I lost all my keys. Can you make a new one with nothing to start from?

Yes, and it's a common call. All-keys-lost on the 2008 SKY means we decode the lock or pull the key cut from the vehicle's data, cut a fresh blade, and program the transponder through the OBD port. The system gets updated to recognize the new key. No existing key needed, no tow to the dealer, no waiting in a service queue. We do it where the car sits.

Q: My 2008 Saturn SKY cranks but won't stay running. Could it be a transponder problem?

The SKY's immobilizer can cause a no-start, but when the engine cranks and then immediately dies, that pattern does sometimes point to the security system cutting fuel after startup. A few things to check first: make sure you're not using a copied key that wasn't properly programmed, because a poorly cloned key can pass the initial crank and then lose communication.

Q: Can a locksmith or dealer add a second key if I still have one working key for my SKY?

Yes. Having one working key actually makes the job cleaner. We program the new key alongside the original so you walk away with two. The process still goes through the OBD port with diagnostic equipment, same as an all-keys-lost job, just without the added step of clearing a dead key from the system.

2008 Saturn SKY Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from someone parked on Ojai Avenue, right in Downtown Ojai, on a warm afternoon. The SKY wouldn't start. Not a click, not a crank. Battery tested fine. The key turned in the cylinder. The car just sat there.

He had already tried the spare. Same result.

That tells you something. When the spare fails the same way, you're past the mechanical side of things. The immobilizer wasn't seeing either key as valid, which meant both chips needed to be looked at, or the system needed a fresh enrollment.

I pulled up next to him, hooked into the OBD port, and ran through the key programming sequence. The SKY's system clears old keys and accepts new ones through the diagnostic connection, no ignition dance, no button sequence. I cut the new key blade to his vehicle, enrolled the transponder, and handed it over.

He turned the key. It fired right up.

He mentioned he had called the dealer earlier that week. They told him he'd need to tow it in and wait a couple of days. He didn't end up going that route, which is why he was calling a mobile locksmith in a parking lot instead. Saved himself a tow, saved himself the wait, and paid a fraction of what the dealer had quoted.

Saturn SKY Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 2008 Saturn SKY key fob have a battery I need to replace?▼

There's no fob on this one. The 2008 SKY uses a straight transponder key, meaning the chip is built into the key head and there's no separate remote or battery involved. Lock and unlock is done with the key in the door. If your key is failing, it's either a worn blade, a damaged chip, or a programming issue, not a dead battery.
