2019 Volvo Xc40
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2019 Volvo Xc40 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman over in Poinsettia who'd been dealing with her XC40 for about two weeks before she reached out. The fob still worked, mostly.

Doors would unlock, car would start. But the rubber on the buttons had gone soft and gummy in that way that happens after years of sitting in a pocket next to keys and coins, and there was a hairline crack running along the seam of the shell near the battery cover.

She'd already been to the dealer. They told her the whole fob needed to be replaced and quoted her a number that made her pause long enough to go looking for another option.

When I got to her garage, I popped the fob open and looked at the board. Clean. No corrosion, no cracked solder joints, no sign that anything inside had taken a hit. The electronics were completely fine. What she had was a cosmetic and mechanical problem, not an electrical one.

I transferred the working internals into a fresh shell, seated a new CR2032, and made sure the emergency blade moved freely in its housing, because a blade that's never been used will sometimes stiffen up and the last thing you want is to need it and have it fight you. Ran through every button, tested proximity start, walked the door handles. Everything worked the way it was supposed to.

She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer wanted, and the job was done in her driveway without her having to arrange a tow or a loaner.
