Out in Bressi Ranch, I got a call from a woman standing next to her 2011 Chevrolet Cruze in a carport. She'd bought it used a few years back with one key, always meant to get a spare made, and kept putting it off. The flip hinge had been loose for a while. That morning it finally let go completely. The blade snapped off inside the door lock cylinder, and she was standing there holding the fob housing with no way in and no backup.

First thing I did was extract the blade fragment from the door lock. Then I decoded the cylinder so I had the cut pattern. While I had the broken fob housing open, I checked the transponder chip. It was still intact and readable inside the cracked shell, which changed the whole job. Because I could pull the chip data directly, I didn't need to run a full all-keys-lost procedure. That saved real time.
I cut two new key blades to match the cylinder, rebuilt the fob into a new housing using her original chip, and programmed both keys on site. Tested every button, confirmed the immobilizer accepted both keys, and made sure the blade on each one flipped and locked cleanly before I handed them over.
About 35 minutes start to finish. She had two working keys instead of one worn-out spare she'd been meaning to copy. The dealer quote she'd gotten once, just out of curiosity, was the kind of number that makes people decide they don't really need a spare after all.
