The immobilizer system inside your Dodge is the reason the key costs more than a hardware store copy. Every Dodge key since the mid-2000s has a transponder chip in the plastic head or the Fobik housing. When you turn the ignition or press the start button, the vehicle sends an encrypted radio signal to that chip. If the chip responds correctly, the engine starts. If not, nothing.
