2021 Dodge Charger
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Is a mobile locksmith actually cheaper than the Dodge dealer for a smart key?

On a 2021 Charger, yes, by a meaningful margin. Dealers price the fob, the blade, and the programming as separate line items and sometimes layer a shop or diagnostic fee on top. Mobile locksmiths don't carry that overhead. You also skip the tow if you're stranded without any working key, which is its own cost people forget to factor in.

Q: Does your price include cutting and programming?

Yes. One price covers the fob, cutting the emergency blade to your vehicle, programming the smart key to the immobilizer, syncing the remote functions, and a full button test before I leave. Nothing gets added at the end.

Q: My 2021 Charger fob works for door locks but push-button start won't recognize it. What is going on?

This is a real pattern on this generation and it trips people up because the remote functions still work fine, so they assume the fob is okay. The lock and unlock signals operate on a different path than the start authorization. If push-button start is throwing a key-not-detected warning but the doors respond to the fob normally, a few things come up often on forums for this year.

Q: I lost all my keys for a 2021 Charger. Can a locksmith handle that without going to the dealer?

Yes. All-keys-lost on the 2021 Charger is a job I do on-site regularly. It requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port to run the security system through a timed relearn sequence, clear the old key data, and register the new fob. The process has a built-in wait period, so plan for roughly 30 to 45 minutes total. No tow needed.

2021 Dodge Charger Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a home care worker in the Bancroft area of Spring Valley on a Tuesday morning. Her 2021 Charger was sitting in the carport and wouldn't respond to the fob at all.

Push-button start wasn't recognizing anything, and she'd already burned twenty minutes trying a new battery the night before. She had a patient visit in an hour and was looking up tow companies when she found me instead.

I told her to stay put.

When I pulled up, she had the fob in pieces on the hood, battery already swapped correctly. So the battery wasn't the issue. I connected to the OBD port, ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the Dodge smart key system, let the security handshake work through its sequence, and registered her fob fresh. The whole thing took about 35 minutes, which includes the timed wait built into the relearn process on this generation.

Push-button start lit up on the first press. She stood there for a second looking at the dash like she was waiting for it to change its mind.

She made her patient visit. I packed up and left the carport before 9am. The dealer, if she'd gone that route, would have meant a tow, a wait for an open bay, and a bill she didn't need to pay. I don't mention that to every customer, but she brought it up herself on the way out.

Dodge Charger Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2021 Dodge Charger key replacement cost?▼

Call us for the exact number, but the short version is: it is a fraction of what the dealer charges. Dodge dealers typically break the job into separate line items, the fob itself, the emergency blade, and programming as three distinct charges, and then sometimes add a diagnostic fee on top of that. With EZ Car Keyz, you get one price that covers the fob, the blade cut, programming, and mobile service to your location in Spring Valley.
