Saturday morning in Buena Creek, Vista. A vendor had been setting up his booth at the swap meet lot since early, and when he walked back to his 2016 Dodge Charger between trips, nothing worked.
Push-button start gave him a key-not-detected warning. The fob buttons were dead. He was stranded in a parking lot with a full day of work ahead of him and a dealer that would not open until Monday at the earliest.

I pulled into the lot about 40 minutes later. Tested the fob first. The CR2032 was flat, which explained the dead buttons, but swapping the battery alone was not going to get him back into the system -- the key still needed to be recognized by the vehicle after sitting dead that long. I ran a PIN read through the OBD port, cleared the fob communication fault, and registered the replacement key to the vehicle. Checked lock, unlock, and push-button start. Then walked the full perimeter: driver handle, passenger handle, and trunk release. Everything responded the way it should.
He had enough time left to finish his setup before the lot opened.
The dealer comparison was not even really a conversation. Monday at the earliest, then into a queue behind everyone else. He saved a good chunk and got back to work the same morning.
