1998 Dodge Stratus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

1998 Dodge Stratus Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Del Mar Village on a weekday morning is quieter than you'd expect. Mostly residents walking dogs, a few people heading toward the beach. I was parked near the village when I got the call -- guy standing next to his '98 Stratus with a snapped key in his hand and the other half still in the door lock.

He'd tried to force it open the night before when the lock was stiff. The blade gave way at the bow, clean break.

I pulled the broken piece from the lock with an extractor. No damage to the cylinder. Then I decoded the lock face to get the cut, ran a new key blade, and tested it in both the door and the ignition. Smooth operation.

He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait and a charge that made him pause. I was done before he finished his coffee from the place across the street. No appointment, no parts order, no leaving the car somewhere.

The warranty conversation came up after, same as it always does. I told him what I tell everyone: if something I cut or did fails on my end, I come back. Same van, same person, no charge. He seemed less interested in the warranty than in the fact that the key worked right then, standing on the sidewalk in Del Mar.
