2004 Dodge Stratus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2004 Dodge Stratus Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in the breezeway of his apartment complex off a side street in South Poway. He was a tattoo artist, worked odd hours, and his key housing had split clean down the side. The plastic around the buttons had cracked and the fob was basically held together by habit at that point.

He had already been to the dealer. They told him the only path forward was a full key replacement, cut and programmed. He walked out without one because the number they quoted did not make sense to him when the car started fine every time he used it.

That part mattered. The car was starting. That told me the transponder chip inside was still doing its job. The remote functions were still working too. What he actually had was a cosmetic problem dressed up as an expensive one.

I pulled up to his parking spot with replacement shells and my decoding tool. I decoded his lock cylinder to get an exact blade match, then carefully transferred his circuit board and chip into a fresh housing. Once everything was seated, I verified the remote range on all the buttons and cut a new blade from the decode. Everything worked the way it should.

The dealer's quote was for parts that did not need replacing. I charged him a fraction of that, and he had a solid, working key in his hand before I left the lot.
