2001 Dodge Stratus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for this car?

You call, give us the year, make, model, and VIN. We confirm the correct key and remote specs for your 2001 Dodge Stratus and go over pricing before anyone drives anywhere. On site, we bring the key blank, cutting equipment, and programming tools that communicate with the vehicle's immobilizer. We cut the replacement key blade to your car, handle transponder enrollment, sync the remote functions, and test every button and the ignition before we leave.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Three things: the vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership, either your registration or your title. We pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to verify everything matches before we start. Worth knowing from real owner experiences: if the car is registered to a business or a family member's name, bring something that connects you to that registration. A dealer will turn you away over that mismatch, and we take ownership verification just as seriously.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2001 Dodge Stratus. Will it just work, or does it need programming?

It needs to be enrolled to your specific vehicle. A fob that matches the factory FCC ID listed on your original remote is the right hardware, but matching part numbers don't mean it's paired. This is one of the most common points of confusion owners run into with this generation. The good news on the remote side: this era of Dodge has an onboard add-a-remote sequence using the ignition and door locks that doesn't require a scan tool.

Q: The remote on my 2001 Stratus stopped working suddenly. Is the fob dead or is something wrong with the car?

Start with the CR2032 battery. These fobs are known for giving little to no warning before the battery drops too low to transmit reliably, and a weak cell can cause range to shrink down to almost nothing before it quits entirely. If a fresh CR2032 doesn't fix it, the fob may have lost its pairing to the vehicle. That can happen after a battery disconnect, after certain electrical events, or sometimes just from age.

2001 Dodge Stratus Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out at The Bridges in Rancho Santa Fe, I got a call from someone who had been carrying two problems at once and only knew about one of them.

She'd bought a replacement fob online for her 2001 Dodge Stratus after the original cracked and the lock button stopped responding. She figured she'd just swap batteries, maybe do a quick re-sync, and be done. The battery was fine. The re-sync didn't take. She couldn't figure out why and eventually gave up on the remote, just started using the key blade to lock up manually.

Then the car started hesitating on cold starts. She thought it was a fuel issue.

When I got there and went through it, the remote needed to be enrolled to the vehicle, which the online listing hadn't mentioned. The fob she bought was correct for her car, matching the factory FCC ID on the label, but it had never been paired. Once I ran the enrollment sequence, all four buttons came to life clean. Lock, unlock, panic, trunk. She was a little surprised the remote was that simple once you knew the process.

The cold-start hesitation turned out to be unrelated to the key system entirely. I flagged it for her but that one was outside my lane.

She told me the dealer had quoted her a time slot two weeks out just to look at it. She had a working remote in about twenty minutes, standing in her driveway. The dealer option never came up again.

Dodge Stratus Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2001 Dodge Stratus somewhere for key replacement?▼

No. EZ Car Keyz is fully mobile and comes to you, whether that's your driveway in The Bridges, a parking lot, or wherever the car is sitting in the Rancho Santa Fe area. Now, if you've lost all keys, that's a different level of job than a remote sync. All-keys-lost on this generation means the immobilizer needs to be addressed with the right programming equipment through the OBD port, not just an ignition sequence.
