I got a call one evening from a woman staying in the Live Oak Park Area in Fallbrook.

She was visiting from out of town, had her only key with her, and somewhere between the car and the door of wherever she was staying, the fob stopped responding. Not totally dead. I connected through the OBD port, pulled up the key registration, and added a new fob matched to her vehicle. Verified all the buttons. Verified the car started. Walked the exterior to check the door handles and lock confirmation. The whole thing took about 25 minutes, most of which was the timed enrollment sequence built into the process.

She made it to dinner. The dealer appointment she'd dreaded turned into a call she never had to make. I don't say that to knock dealers. They do the same job. It just takes a lot more of your day and costs noticeably more for the same result.
