2024 Ford Edge Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Bonsall, off one of those long residential roads that winds before you see any houses, I pulled up to a 2024 Ford Edge sitting in a driveway. The owner had already tried the obvious stuff: fresh battery, re-seating it, trying the fob near the start button. Still getting a key-not-detected warning on the dash every few attempts. Not every time. Just enough to make it unreliable.
That intermittent part was the tell. Intermittent usually means something mechanical inside the fob housing, not the transponder or the pairing. I popped the key open on my work surface and found the battery contacts had a slight spread, not enough to look wrong at a glance, but enough to lose contact when the fob flexed. Seated a fresh CR2450, bent the contacts back to spec, closed it up.
Then I did the part I always do and most people do not expect: I walked the car. Every button, multiple times. Tested the lock from across the driveway. Tested the unlock. Ran the remote functions. Started the car, shut it off, started it again. Twice more after that.
She asked why I kept starting it. I told her that one clean start proves nothing. Three in a row, with a little wait in between, tells you if there is anything intermittent hiding in the pairing. There was not. Everything checked out, and she had a working key before I packed up my bag.
The dealer had already quoted her a full key replacement. She did not need that. She needed someone to actually look at what was happening instead of jumping straight to the replacement.
