There is a school parking lot off a side street in Downtown Lemon Grove that I have visited more than once for jobs like this. Parents sitting in their cars, waiting on dismissal, realizing something is wrong only because they finally have five quiet minutes to notice it.
This one was a 2020 Ford Edge. The owner had run the fob through the washing machine two days before. It had been sitting in a bag of rice since then, and she was hoping for a miracle. I walked her through testing every button, checked that the vehicle recognized the fob at the door handle, and made sure the ignition sequence worked cleanly.
She had a working key in her hand before her kids walked out the front door of the school. She mentioned what the dealer had quoted her for Friday. I told her to have a good afternoon.
