I was already in the Cedros Design District area when the text came in, which was lucky for him.
A trail runner had gone out for a long morning run from a lot about 20 minutes east of Solana Beach. Somewhere between the trailhead and the turnaround point, his key left his pocket. I decoded the door lock, cut the blade, built out the remote head key, connected at the OBD port to handle the transponder registration, and then walked through the remote functions to confirm lock, unlock, and the trunk release were all responding. The whole job happened in that gravel lot, truck never moved an inch.
He asked what a dealer would have charged, plus a tow from a location no flatbed was going to enjoy. I told him to call around if he wanted to compare. He didn't bother.
