2023 Honda Ridgeline
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you're not one of those bait-and-switch locksmiths?

Fair question. The pattern with scam operations is a low quote on the phone, then a doubled price once they're in your driveway and you're stuck. I give you a firm price on the phone for your specific vehicle and situation. It doesn't change when I show up. I arrive in a marked van, show credentials, and give you a written estimate.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. For a full smart key replacement on the 2023 Ridgeline, we program the fob to the vehicle's immobilizer so the engine will start, and we verify all the remote functions before leaving. The emergency blade inside the fob gets cut to your door lock as well. We test everything on site - start, lock, unlock, and fob detection at the door handle. If anything is off, we catch it right there, not after I've driven away.

Q: My 2023 Ridgeline starts fine but the door handles stopped recognizing the fob. What's going on?

This comes up on these trucks. If the push-button start still works and the engine runs fine, the fob itself is probably not the problem. The door handle sensors on the Ridgeline are a known weak point - dirt, moisture, and oxidation around the capacitive touch area on the handle can kill the passive unlock and lock function while the rest of the system keeps working normally. Start by wiping down the handle area and retest.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2023 Ridgeline. Can you still make a new one without a working key to copy from?

Yes, all-keys-lost is something we handle. It takes longer than an add-a-key job because without a working fob present, we have to go through the immobilizer reset process using the diagnostic port, which involves a timed security sequence. Once that's done, the new key gets enrolled as the registered fob for the vehicle. Bring your ID and have the VIN ready - it speeds up the front end of the job.

2023 Honda Ridgeline Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman parked at a strip mall along Beyer Blvd had been standing outside her Ridgeline for twenty minutes by the time she called me. Fob in hand, dead battery, and she hadn't known the emergency blade was folded right inside it.

She'd been pulling the door handle over and over, watching the key-not-detected warning on the door pillar, completely stuck. I was maybe ten minutes away when she called, and I asked her to look at the back of the fob for a small release button. She found it. Slid the blade out. Got into the truck. But the engine still wouldn't start, which is exactly right - the blade opens the door, not the ignition. The fob still has to be present and recognized.

I pulled up, popped a fresh battery into the fob on the spot, reseated the contact plate which had a slight bend from what looked like a previous battery swap done in a hurry, and she had a running truck inside of five minutes. We tested lock, unlock, and start twice before I called it done.

She mentioned she had no idea the blade was even in there. A lot of Ridgeline owners don't, until the day they need it.
