I was parked outside a muffler shop in Spring Valley Village when the service manager waved me over. He had a customer situation that needed explaining before I even opened my bag.
A 2020 Ridgeline owner had called a different locksmith that morning for an all-keys-lost replacement. The other locksmith started the programming sequence, the car battery dropped voltage partway through the security handshake, and the immobilizer went into a fault state. The fob didn't learn. It paired on the first attempt.
Total time was close to an hour and a half, which is longer than a normal smart key job on one of these. The voltage drop recovery and the fault clearing added time. But it was done on-site, same afternoon, for a fraction of what a dealer would have charged after a flatbed ride and a multi-day wait.
The muffler shop manager watched the whole thing. At the end he said he was going to start keeping my number posted at the service counter.
