1995 Hyundai Accent
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

1995 Hyundai Accent Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman out in Libby Lake, right off Oceanside Boulevard near the park.

Her husband's 1995 Hyundai Accent was sitting in the driveway and the only key they had was bent badly enough that it would go in but not come back out without a fight. It had been like that for weeks. He would jiggle it, coax it, then one morning it just snapped off at the bow, half in the lock, half in his hand.

She had already called the Hyundai dealer. The service advisor told her the car would need to be towed in, they would have to assess the lock cylinder, and she should expect a wait because they were booked out. The estimate they gave her over the phone made her pause long enough to look for another option.

I got there that afternoon. The broken section was still in the ignition cylinder. I extracted it with my pick set, no damage to the cylinder. Then I decoded the lock, cut a fresh key to match, and tested it in every lock on the car including the ignition, driver door, and passenger door.

The key slid in and turned clean the first try. She laughed a little, like she had been bracing for bad news that never came.

The dealer route would have meant a tow, a wait, and a bill that did not account for how simple this job actually is on a mid-nineties mechanical key car. She paid a fraction of that, and the car stayed in her driveway the whole time.
