2004 Hyundai Accent Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There is a parking lot off Cuyamaca Street in Downtown Santee where I have done more than a few calls. This one was a 2004 Hyundai Accent, and the owner met me there on a weekday morning looking like he had already been at it for a while.
He had two problems at once: the original remote head key was physically worn and turning rough in the ignition, and a replacement he ordered online was just sitting on his front seat doing nothing. The blade on the new one had never been cut. He figured he could figure the programming out after. He had not figured it out.
I looked at the cylinder first. Three weeks of forcing a worn key had done real damage to the wafers inside. I decoded the lock, pulled the worn wafers, and installed new ones matched to the correct cut. Then I cut his aftermarket blank to match the repaired cylinder.
After that came the enrollment side. Got the transponder paired through the OBD port, then ran the remote sync so the lock and unlock buttons were live. First turn of the key it went in clean and the engine came up without hesitation.
He looked at the old wafers I had set on the hood. Three of them were visibly chewed up. He said the dealer told him he needed a whole new ignition assembly. He did not need a whole new ignition assembly. He needed someone to look at what was actually broken instead of just replacing everything in the zip code.
