Worst case on a 2017 Hyundai Accent is an all-keys-lost smart key where another locksmith already attempted the job and left the immobilizer module in a fault state. The system accepted the new key on the first clean attempt after the reset.
Total was about 80 minutes including the module work. His bill was $79. The alternative was a flatbed to the Hyundai dealer, a multi-day wait, and $179 or more. I carry bench tools specifically for situations where a previous bad attempt left the system worse off than when it started.
