1995 Infiniti G20
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

1995 Infiniti G20 Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy up in Mt. Helix, the hilly part of La Mesa where the roads twist and a lot of the houses have steep driveways. He had a 1995 Infiniti G20 sitting in his driveway and only one key left.

He had not made a spare in the thirty-plus years he owned the car, and the original was worn down enough that it was starting to feel loose in the ignition. He did not want to find out the hard way what happens when it fails completely on one of those curves.

I drove out and looked at what he had. The key blank for that generation is not something most hardware stores carry, so he had never been able to get a simple copy made at a kiosk. That happens a lot with older Japanese vehicles. The blanks existed, but not at every corner shop.

I had the right blank in the van. I decoded his worn original and cut a fresh key to the correct specifications. Then I cut a second one so he would have a spare for the first time since probably the Clinton administration.

He tried both keys in the ignition and in the door. Both turned clean. He mentioned the dealer had told him a while back they no longer stocked parts for that model and he should try a locksmith. Good advice, just took him a few years to follow it. He paid a fraction of what a dealer trip would have cost, and I was done in under twenty minutes on his driveway.
