1998 Infiniti G20
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Ask for the BSIS license number before anyone rolls. Ask for the company name and a written estimate tied to your specific year and model. A real locksmith working a 1998 G20 will tell you upfront it is a mechanical key job and give you a straight answer on what cutting it involves.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. On a 1998 G20 the key is mechanical, so if the cut is correct it works in every lock it is supposed to: door, ignition, and glovebox if applicable. I test each one before I leave. There are no remote functions, no fob pairing, nothing to verify electronically. The test is simple and immediate. Either the key turns clean or it does not, and I do not pack up until it does.

Q: I only have one key left for my G20. Should I get a spare cut now or wait until I need one?

Get the spare now. Once you are down to zero keys on an older vehicle like this, the options narrow. If the last key is lost or broken, the path back in is either picking the lock, decoding a cylinder, or getting a locksmith out to cut from scratch with no reference. All of that takes more time and costs more than duplicating a working key while you still have one.

Q: My G20 ignition feels stiff and the key is getting hard to turn. Is the key worn or is it the cylinder?

Could be either. On a car this age, both wear together. A key that has been copied multiple times can drift just enough to bind in an aging cylinder. Try your oldest key first. If that one turns easier, the copy is the problem and a fresh cut from the original fixes it. If every key drags, the cylinder itself is worn or has debris in the wafers. I can assess that on site.

1998 Infiniti G20 Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in San Pasqual Valley, off the road past the vineyards, a guy had been driving the same G20 for years. It was his daily, kept up, nothing fancy. One afternoon he snapped the key off in the door lock. Half stayed in his hand, half stayed in the cylinder.

He called expecting a long wait and a tow. I told him to stay put.

I got out there with my extraction kit, worked the broken piece out of the cylinder without pulling the lock apart, then decoded the cut right off the door while I was already there. Cut a new key blade on site, tested it in the door, tested it in the ignition. Took less than an hour from the time I pulled into his driveway.

He had been quoted a trip to the dealer plus a few days of waiting to even get an appointment. None of that applied here. One visit, one key, done before the afternoon was gone.

Infiniti G20 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Infiniti vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, the state agency that regulates automotive locksmiths. We carry full liability insurance. For a 1998 G20 specifically, the job is a mechanical cut, so there is no security data access or immobilizer work involved. Still, you want someone licensed and insured doing any key work on your vehicle.
