2002 Infiniti G20
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2002 Infiniti G20 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Guy in the Richland neighborhood of San Marcos called me on a Tuesday. His 2002 Infiniti G20 had sat for a while after some electrical work, and when he went to start it the engine would crank but immediately die.

He had a key, it turned fine, nothing obviously wrong. He figured it was a fuel pump issue and had already been down that road with a mechanic who found nothing.

That crank-and-stall pattern on a car this age points one direction: the immobilizer reading the transponder chip and not liking what it sees. The chip is there, the key turns, but the system says no and kills the engine before it can run.

I pulled up to his place, verified the symptom, and got to work registering the key properly to the vehicle's security system. No drama, no parts run, no tow truck. Once the key was enrolled and the immobilizer accepted it, the car started and idled clean.

He had been about to authorize more fuel system diagnosis. That would have been a frustrating afternoon going nowhere. The dealer was also in the picture, with a days-long wait attached to any appointment. Neither of those made sense once we knew what we were actually dealing with.

He drove it that evening.
