2000 Infiniti Q45 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy out in Granite Hills, El Cajon, called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He'd bought a used 2000 Q45 a few months back and had been living with one key the whole time. His girlfriend had borrowed the car, set the key down somewhere at a restaurant, and that was that. Gone. He was standing in his driveway with a car he couldn't start and no backup.
He'd already called the Infiniti dealer. They told him to tow the vehicle in. He wasn't thrilled about that.
When I got to him I could see right away the situation: zero working keys, which means the standard add-a-key shortcut was off the table. All-keys-lost on this generation requires resetting the immobilizer so it can learn a new transponder chip. I cut a replacement key blade to match his door lock and ignition on site, then ran the initialization sequence through the diagnostic port to clear the old key memory and register the new key.
He watched the whole thing from his driveway. When I turned the key and the engine came up and held idle without stalling, he just nodded like he'd been holding his breath.
The dealer route would have been a tow bill plus a wait in their service queue. He paid a fraction of that, never left the neighborhood, and drove the car that same afternoon. I reminded him to get a spare cut and programmed while I was already there. He did.
