2006 Nissan Frontier
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2006 Nissan Frontier Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near the Garden Road Area in Poway, I got a call from a guy who had been nursing his 2006 Frontier for about two weeks. The key had started sticking in the ignition, and by the time he called me, he was using both hands and a specific wrist angle just to get it to turn.

He had already called a dealer. They quoted him for a full ignition cylinder replacement, a new key, and a programming appointment. He was skeptical because the truck had started fine every time once he got the key to turn. That is not how a dead cylinder usually behaves.

I met him at his place and tested the ignition before touching anything. The cylinder was worn, not seized. The wafers inside had rounded off from years of use, which makes the key feel gritty and resistant without actually failing. A worn wafer job, not a cylinder swap.

I decoded the lock, swapped out the worn wafers, and cut a fresh key blade matched to the repaired cylinder. Then I programmed the transponder so the immobilizer would accept it, and tested the remote functions on his three-button fob. Truck started clean, key turned smooth, remote locked and unlocked without issue.

I showed him the old wafers before I left. He could see exactly where they had worn down. He did not need a new cylinder. He needed someone who checked the actual problem before selling him parts.
