2004 Toyota RAV4
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not one of those bait-and-switch locksmiths?

The pattern with scam operations is predictable: vague pricing on the phone, a number that doubles once they show up and you are stuck. They also tend to dodge specifics. Ask them what tool they use to program a 2004 Toyota remote. Ask them how long it takes. If you get a runaround, that tells you something. With us, you get a real estimate for your specific vehicle before I drive out.

Q: Will the replacement remote work exactly like the factory one?

Yes. A properly programmed remote for your 2004 RAV4 communicates with the vehicle the same way the original did. Lock, unlock, and the panic function all come back. The transponder in the key blade gets the car to start. I test every function on-site before I hand anything over, so you are not driving away and discovering a problem later.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2004 RAV4. Can you just program that one?

Sometimes, with a caveat. The 2004 RAV4 remote needs to match the factory frequency and be compatible with the vehicle's receiver module. Aftermarket fobs vary a lot in quality, and some will program and hold, some will program and drop out after a few days, and some will not pair at all. If you already bought one, bring it. I will tell you quickly whether it is worth trying or whether you are better off with a known-good unit.

Q: My 2004 RAV4 remote only works from a few feet away now. Is the fob dying?

Short range on these is almost always the CR2032 going flat before it fully dies. A weak battery will cut the effective range down to almost nothing while the fob still technically works up close, which fools a lot of people into thinking the remote itself is failing. Swap the battery first. If range comes back, you are done.

2004 Toyota RAV4 Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Downtown National City, a Wednesday afternoon in a dentist parking lot. The owner of a 2004 RAV4 called me while she was waiting for her kid to get out of the chair. Her fob had stopped responding completely, fresh battery and all. She had already called the Toyota dealer. They said Monday at the earliest, possibly later if they needed to order parts.

She had a full week ahead of her. Errands, pickups, the kind of schedule that does not pause for four days. Monday was not a real option.

I was there before the appointment ended.

The fob was a 3-button remote, the factory unit for this generation RAV4. I connected my programmer, ran the Toyota remote registration sequence, and got it talking to the vehicle. Cut the key blade to match her existing ignition, tested every button, tested the start, walked the locks. Everything worked before I closed my case.

She came out to a car that was ready to go. The dealer comparison came up on its own, she mentioned what they quoted, and I just let it sit there. The number was not close. Neither was the wait time.

Wednesday call, Wednesday fix. That is the whole point of being mobile.

Toyota RAV4 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Toyota vehicles in California?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds an active California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services license (LCO#6792) and carries full insurance. For a 2004 RAV4 this matters less than it does on a newer vehicle with a more locked-down security system, but it still matters. You want someone who can verify what they are doing, stand behind it, and be reached afterward if anything comes up.
