2006 Toyota RAV4 Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Otay Mesa West flagged me down near the border crossing area on a weekday afternoon. He had watched a few of my Toyota key videos on YouTube, recognized the van, and waved me over.
His 2006 RAV4 key had snapped at the bow, right where the plastic head meets the blade. The blade was still in his pocket, bent enough to be unusable. He had been borrowing a coworker's car to get to work.
He had already called the dealer. They told him they would need to verify ownership, order a cut key, and have him come back in a few days. He was not thrilled about that timeline.
I decoded the lock right there on the street, cut the replacement blade on site, and enrolled the new key. He turned the ignition, and it fired up on the first try. He stood there for a second like he expected more steps.
There were no more steps. That was it.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and he did not have to leave his car anywhere or wait for parts. Same result, done in Otay Mesa West, in about the time it takes to grab lunch.
