Early morning call in Oxnard Shores. Contractor had his 2012 Acura MDX loaded up and ready to roll.
It would fire for a second, then shut right off. Green key icon blinking on the dash. He had already swapped the CR1616 in his flip key, part number 35111-STX-329, thinking that was the fix. Remote worked. Engine did not.
On these, the transponder is a Philips ID46 chip buried in the head of that flip key. Battery has nothing to do with it starting. If it cranks and dies with the immobilizer light flashing, the system is not happy.
I verified the keyway is HON66, scoped the ignition cylinder, then hooked into the OBD port with my Autel IM608. Immobilizer data showed irregular status log counts, the same symptom Acura put out an internal bulletin about for 2011 to 2013 MDX units where the engine can shut off right after start due to immobilizer communication.
In his case, the key had taken a hit and the chip response was inconsistent. I cut and registered a fresh N5F0602A1A flip key, erased the old one out of memory, and cycled it a few times. No more flashing green key. No stall.
He just nodded, turned it off, started it again, and got back to work like nothing happened.
