A call came in at 6:04 in the morning from a catering company owner in the Santa Susana Knolls neighborhood of Simi Valley. She had a reception to cater and four hours to make it happen. Her Q3 would not respond to the fob, and when she tried the emergency blade in the door, the cylinder was stiff enough that she thought something was broken.
I was on the road by the time she finished the sentence. Made it to her commercial kitchen in about twenty minutes.
The fob battery was dead. Not low. Gone. A little work with the right tools, and the door opened fine. Once I was in and connected through the OBD port, the key-not-detected fault cleared after a proper battery swap and a reset on the security side.
Total hands-on time was under thirty minutes. She was pulling out of that parking lot by 6:50.
The dealer quote she had from a previous key scare was the kind of number that would have required a tow truck, a loaner, and two days of waiting on top of it. She mentioned it almost as a joke. For this job, she called me instead.
