2013 BMW X1 Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A Euro specialty shop on Saviers Road in Oxnard called me about a 2013 X1 that was completely dead. The story was familiar but ugly.
The owner had lost his only key. The shop called a locksmith. That locksmith tried to read the CAS3+ through OBD, which does not work on an all-keys-lost scenario for this module. When that failed, he pulled the CAS and attempted a bench read but lost power mid-write. The 0M89C EEPROM came back corrupted. No start, no crank, no communication with the module at all. The locksmith packed up and left. Told the shop it needed a new CAS from BMW.
I brought my Yanhua ACDP with the CAS3+ adapter. Pulled the module, read what was left on the EEPROM, and found the data was partially intact but the key area was scrambled. I recovered the ISN and VIN-linked data from the backup partition, patched the corrupted key table, and wrote it clean. Then I generated a fresh HU92 key with the correct ID46 transponder and programmed it to the restored module.
The CAS went back in and the X1 fired on the first turn. I walked the shop tech through what happened so he could spot the signs if another locksmith ever tried the wrong approach on one of his customer cars.
Took about two hours total, which is long for me. But the alternative was a flatbed to BMW of Camarillo, a replacement CAS3+ module, and easily a week or more without the car for a fraction of what they wanted.
