A temple volunteer at the parking lot near Surfers Point on a Saturday told me she'd already been burned once. Another locksmith had charged her full price for a 2011 Honda Civic key that never programmed correctly. The car would crank but the immobilizer killed the fuel injection after two seconds. Classic failed IMMO learn. The other guy told her the car had a module problem and left.
The car didn't have a module problem, it had a locksmith problem. The previous tech hadn't completed the full immobilizer registration sequence. Honda's IMMO system requires a specific security handshake and timed countdown. If you rush it or skip a step, the car accepts the key data temporarily but doesn't write it to permanent memory.
I used my HON66 Lishi to verify the mechanical cut was at least correct, then connected through OBD with my IM608. I cleared the failed key data from the previous attempt, ran a clean IMMO learn with the full security timer, and confirmed the new key was written to the module permanently. Her fob, FCC ID N5F-S0084A, had all 4 buttons working plus a clean start with no two-second fuel cutoff. I showed her the confirmation on my IM608 screen so she could see the key was fully learned this time.
She paid me 185. The dealer charges 395 for the same work. She'd already paid the first locksmith too, which I couldn't help with. But I could make sure the job was actually done right.
