A photographer near Cross at Grant Park in Ventura had a 2019 Honda Civic with push-to-start and zero keys. He'd been shooting at a canyon overlook with no cell service, hiked back to the main road, and eventually got a call out to me. Push-to-start AKL on the tenth-gen Civic is more involved than a standard transponder job. The IMMO module needs its old key data cleared before new KR5V2X fobs can register. On this platform that means touching the steering lock module and the PCM. I used my ACDP to pull a safety backup of the immobilizer data, then ran the full AKL sequence through OBD. Programmed his new 5-button proximity fob, cut the emergency insert blade, verified lock, unlock, remote start, and push-button ignition.
His car started at a canyon overlook with no dealer within 30 miles. He stood there watching the dash light up like he didn't trust it yet.
