2013 Honda Civic Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near the Ventura County Medical Center. His 2013 Civic was sitting in the lot and the key wasn't turning the ignition. He'd been wiggling it for ten minutes. Said he could feel it catch but it wouldn't rotate past the first detent.
I asked him on the phone if the steering wheel was locked. He tried rocking it. Nothing changed. That told me the wafers inside the ignition cylinder were probably worn, reading the blade wrong. Common on these ninth-gen Civics once they get past 80K miles, and his had 127K.
When I got there, I pulled the N5F-S0084A remote head key out and looked at the blade under a loupe. Worn smooth on two cuts. The cylinder was accepting it just enough to slide in but not enough to engage the sidebar properly. I cut a fresh side-mill blade to code, cloned the ID46 chip over using my VVDI Key Tool, and dropped a new CR1616 in the remote head.
Key slid in, turned clean, engine fired on the first try. I tested all four remote buttons from across the lot, locked and unlocked three times each, cycled the trunk release, and hit the panic. He stood there turning the key back and forth in the ignition like he was making sure it was real.
He didn't need a new ignition cylinder. Just a properly cut blade and a cloned transponder, done right there in the parking lot for way less than the dealer quoted him over the phone.
