Friday night near Topa Topa Brewing Company in Oxnard. A family had finished dinner and came out to their 1999 Honda Civic sitting dead in terms of remote function. No lock, no unlock, no panic, no trunk. The dad was already looking up tow trucks on his phone.

Their fob was the A269ZUA101, the 4-button unit Honda put on the sixth-gen EK Civic. The CR2025 inside was completely spent. Swapped the battery, cleaned the board contacts, and reprogrammed the remote using the VVDI Key Tool to get the signal resynced with the car's receiver module. All four buttons came back right away: lock, unlock, panic, trunk release. The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes.
The mom had been dreading leaving the car overnight in a lot. When the locks chirped on the first press, she just stood there holding the fob like she was waiting for it to quit again. It didn't.
They drove home. A dealer would have meant waiting until Monday and then sitting in a service lane for a remote reprogram that takes longer to write up than to actually do. This was a Friday night, same as any other call.
